Hello,
For the past two years I have had NO COMPUTING on my timetable at all! I have been given 10 hours of KS5 ICT (Cambridge Technicals) and the rest KS4 (Cambridge Nationals) Before the introduction of Computing, I attended a SKE at MMU in order to prepare me for the changes and I did a lot of work in my own time to get up to speed. I had also done the PGCE 2 year conversion prior to qualifying which mean for one year, I followed the masters in Computing. I feel that I was adequately prepared to at least take on a Year 9 GCSE group and take them through GCSE. Unfortunately, my current Head of Department took all of the Computing classes and did not allow anyone else in the department to teach any KS4 Computing.
Myself and two other colleagues have had no experience therefore of teaching KS4. Both of those teachers have a second subject to fall back on.
I have had 5 interviews to date but each time the fact that I have not taught any Computing means I am not getting jobs. I am desperate to get another job for September but feel that I am being "deskilled." Without the experience I can't get another job but I can't get the experience unless I get out of my current school.
I also feel that the Universities are pumping out Computing NQTs who are not getting all of the ICT/Computing jobs that are going. Even though some of them have not done any Computing!!
Anyone else in a similar predicament? Views/opinions and advice would be appreciated. I'm in my sixth year of teaching.
Please Help.
Thanks !
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
